Camp Chapman Attack

On December 30th, 2009, a man walked into Forward Operating Base Chapman, a CIA position in Afghanistan, and detonated a bomb, killing 8 people and seriously wounding six more. This became the deadliest attack against the CIA in more than twenty-five years, and the second-most deadly of all time - surpassed only by the 1983 bombing of the US Embassy.

Goals

The goals of the attacker remain unclear. He was eventually determined to be a double agent, an employee of the CIA who became loyal to radical Muslim extremists, but his loyalty to which group or any could not be verified, and several conflicting reports were released by groups, all claiming that the bomber had been working with them. However, if his goal was simply to kill CIA personnel, he clearly succeeded.

Religious Ties

The attacker has been linked to several Islam extremists. A Jordanian doctor, he had a history of supporting violent Islam, and was only working with the CIA in exchange for having his record swept clean. While his mother told the press that he was not as extremist and violent as portrayed by the press, his wife was openly proud of him, saying that if he attacked the US of his own volition, then he had carried out "a very important mission in such a war."

Continued Threat

While the one attacker was killed by his own bomb, the main threat lies in whatever organization backed him. Several groups have claimed him, but we are still not sure who is actually responsible for him. Somewhere, an organization with the influence to turn our agents against us is still out there, and we don't know who they are or what they will do next.
